Taste of Home

“Just feel the magic in the air and the power in the breeze. Feel the energy of the plants, the bushes, and the trees. Let yourself be surrounded by nature at its best. Calm yourself, focus, and let magic do the rest.”
– Sally Walker

Team Canon!

I am not much of a photographer; I like taking pictures but if you were to ask me all the specs and what-nots of a good shot, all I could tell you is to have great lighting. But with this new baby right here I am stoked to start learning!

Because spring is (somewhat) here, I can’t help but take in the sun and the longer days filled with its rays…and it’s the perfect excuse for a test run on this Rebel!

P.S. Side fashion note, I don’t mix metals (gold and silver) but I got really excited over this new tri-chain choker from Forever 21 I couldn’t bear to take it off πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to start taking this Canon around everywhere and bring great, quality photos to fmG! Oh, the joy of an income tax refund and God’s great provisions. AND if you’re a Canon user, I’d love to know some beginner tips and tricks! Leave a comment down below, yeah? πŸ™‚

Bridget Sullivan

Sullivan (a graduate from Creative College Studies and has designed for singer Esperanza Spalding) incorporated both ends of the spectrum in terms of color and silhouette in her collection. From boxy dresses to flowy, whimsical frocks, each garment presented uniqueness with an addition of a full-on print and texture showcase.

Ivy’s Custom Corsetry

Robin Richardson is known for exemplifying impeccable skill and quality to the art of corsetry as she has been sewing for the past 30 years. Her designs, worn by the team members of the Detroit Pride Cheerleaders, took the audience back to the late 19th century of Moulin Rouge. Her collection combined elements of the classic boudoir look and modern flair. The collection composed of lace, frills, sequins, ruffles, floral, and full skirts.

Everything Alpaca

As the night’s emcee Karen Buscemi said, “This [collection] doesn’t make Michigan winter seem too bad, right?” Indeed. Everything Alpaca presented knits galore as the models walked down with V-neck sweaters, cowl neckline sweater dresses, cozy shawls, and flounced, bias-cut ponchos.

Chrysalis Fashions

The final designer, Mira Bedi, had the crowd wide-eyed while each model strutted down the runway. Derived from her native Indian fashion, each dress did not disappoint. The first designs began with high-low silhouettes with embellishments along the neckline and sheer, major flounced cuts with metallic-like trimming. As the set continued, more full-length chiffon dresses with high necklines elegantly graced the show with beadwork upon beadwork. Origins of the sari began to appear with bright colors, embroidery, and more embellishments. Bedi ended with a silver and grey sheer dress with matching pants underneath.

The show’s finale consisted of a dress created by all four designers with each of their aesthetics clearly shown throughout the piece.

The collaboration of designers in the heart of Detroit sets a new and refreshing tone to the mass majority opinions towards the city’s condition. Not only do they represent a revival and renewal but also the guarantee that Detroiters can come together to help rebuild success in the D.

Thank you to Leslie Pilling, her team, designers, sponsors, and everyone who participated in order to make the show a successful, blossoming, and influential event!

Thank you to Jonathan Jackson of Fiyarworx Photography for the above photos.
