Happy New Year! I’m Moving Abroad!

filipina blogger

Happy New Year everyone! 2018 is officially here!!! I hope you all had a fun and safe night as you brought in this fresh, new start of a day! Mine was soooo chill, probably the most low-key December 31st I’ve ever had, but I took advantage of the down time and wrote out my goals and what I envision for 2018 in all areas of my life. As one of my mentors say, most people spend more time planning out a vacation rather than planning out how they can improve and better their lives.

I found this sparkly top at no other than the thrift store. If you’re ever in need of a majorly sequined top at any time of the year, the thrift store is your best friend! I layered it with this furry vest from Forever 21…y’know, trying to keep myself somewhat warm. Hah!

2017 was a blessing in travels: Florida, visiting home in Michigan, the Dominican Republic, and the Philippines. Little did I know that trip to the Philippines in October would be a life-changing one. After prayer and some decision making, I am officially moving to the Philippines in January!!

fashion meets god

This will be my second time living in the Philippines! I will be there for 5-8 months or until God says otherwise (i.e. I was only going to live in the Philippines for nine months last time and I ended up staying there for almost 3 years). My parents are starting a business in the Philippines so they too will be packing up their house in MI and are moving back to their home country after 37 years in the US- how crazy!!

Best believe I will be keeping you all updated on fmG and still running the blog from the Philippines! Please keep us in your prayers for safety and success as they start this business!

I pray you have a great start to your 2018 and are excited for all that is to come! Here we gooooo!

Forever 21 InternshipWell there’s a throwback! The time when I was an intern for Forever 21 Philippines in September 2012. This opportunity led me to be a part of the company for another two years, one as the Accessory Manager. God surely determines our steps (Proverbs 16:9).

“The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” -Lamentations 3:22-24 (NASB)

A New Year, a New You?

Dun du-du dunnnnnn *drumroll* The end of the year post! And a long and overdue faith post, yes?

I’ve been brainstorming and praying on what this post should be about. With a year ender blog there are so many ways to go: what you’ve accomplished, what you didn’t, and how you’ve changed. Then there’s the long list of all the things you want to do in the new year, where you want to go, and who you want to be. However, there are some that don’t find a new year very exciting. Instead of looking at fresh starts, they wallow in the past, are trapped in their failures, or simply don’t believe there’s anything to look forward to. For me it’s the fear of failure and reliving the cycle of highs and lows that are approaching. I realize that’s all inevitable because life isn’t perfect but the thought of those struggles are so- bleh. Who wants that? But that’s how God works, isn’t it? He uses those circumstances to become closer to us through our repentance and His grace and unconditional love. If fighting battles on our knees, blessings appear through the rain, healing comes through tears, and sleepless nights are how we become one with Christ I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Like many of you, I have my “Who I want to be” and “What I want to do” lists for 2014 underway that include goals from my personal life to career. Who knows what this upcoming year will bring but thankfully God has prepared us with His armor. In Scripture it says,

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand…In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” -Ephesians 6:13, 16, 17

Here are a few more verses to assist you through the next 365 days that I will surely be writing down. Whatever “level” you may be on, the Bible gives hope for everything.

The good in change:

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires to be made new in attitude of your minds and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” -Ephesians 4:22-24

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” -Revelation 21:5

Fear of failure:

“The LORD is my light and my salvation– whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life– of whom shall I be afraid?” -Psalm 27:1

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” -2 Timothy 1:7
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” -Deuteronomy 31:6

Possible post-failure:

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” -2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” -Romans 5:3-5

“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”  -James 1:12

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:9

So dear readers, I pray that whatever your goals and hopes are for 2014, you will lean and rely on God during every single step. Happy New Year, all.
