Dominican Republic Dreamin’: What I Miss the Most

The Dominican Republic will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only because it was my first country I went on a missions trip to or that I had my amazing first experience in jewelry and visual merchandising at 16 years oldΒ or that my uncle’s house is literally like paradise, but it’s the friendships and the people that I’ve had the blessing of getting to know. Many of which I still stay in contact with today. I never expected to meet such wonderful people; I just thought I would be in-and-out of a country my relatives had a connection with. But as you can see in the above photo, my face wasn’t red because I got burnt from the sun! No, those were tears on my last night with my newfound friends.

I remember first meeting these guys and gals at the church my auntie and uncle attended. From having rehearsals for our dance and mime routines to them spontaneously showing up at my uncle’s house asking if they could take me out and show me around their city, to beach trips and burying ourselves in the sand, we had such full and fun conversations. Including our walk with the Lord and more often than not, boy talk. When I came back in 2009, I knew we would make even more memories since our friendships were already established. Sure enough- we did.

Since 2009, I’ve been back to the DR one other time during Missions.Me’s #1Nation1Day missions trip. However, I stayed in the province of Bani rather than Puerto Plata yet I’ve stayed updated with this group throughout the years, some who have married within the group and others already parents!

And your girl CANNOT wait to be back in July!!!!!!

I truly hope you all have enjoyed this series of Dominican Republic Dreamin’ that has made you envision yourself in this beautiful country. Walking on the beach. Eating authentic Dominican food. Meeting the warm people of this country. I’m sad this series is already over! A big shout out and super thanks to HARRISON’S Fine Caribbean Jewelers for partnering with fmG and allowing me to share my heart behind my experiences in the DR! I’m sure after my 2.5 week stay, there will surely be more to post about. In the meantime, catch up with the entire series here!
