Fashion Flat Lays: Week One!

The struggle is REAL when you don’t have your photographer handy! Seriously, when I was thankful for this guy for taking my photos, I was not kidding. But now that I’m across the country I will make do for you guys and for consistent content on the blog. With that said, welcome to fashion meets God’s Fashion Flat Lay Files. Say that five times fast!

Did you know there is such a term as “flat lays” for photographing random items on the ground/table/flat surface? And that there is an art to creating them? There’s even an Instagram account dedicated to the form called @flatlays. Yes, really.

Just a teeny background, I am currently in California training for a new job venture where corporate wear is basically the main wardrobe. Rather than packing fringed kimonos, oversize blouses, and plaid button-downs, my suitcase is filled with blazers, skirts, structured dresses, and heels. To document and stay consistent with #OOTDs, I’ve decided to share them like this. Enjoy!

paisley pursuit[September 30, 2015] What I wore to California! I found these Aerie pants at Sal Val for $1.99 and, oh my word, what a steal! They are so comfortable for traveling! However, I didn’t realize I would go straight to the office from the airport so later that night, I literally entered a room with 20 other entrepreneurs in black suits. baroqued[October 1, 2015] Day two! First actual day in the office was a bit intimidating but when you have job responsibilities and an agenda, you just gotta get over it and go. These two heels are my most comfortable heels. I can literally walk in these all day because 1) of the platform. It makes a huge difference, and 2) they fit my arches perfectly. I know we can’t always find high heels that match these two things, but when you do it’s really an investment to your feet. Do them a favor and allow them to be as comfortable as much as they can!

Blazer and dress: thrifted • Necklace: Forever 21 • Shoes: Steve Madden

mustard and houndstooth[October 2, 2015] “I LOVE the color mustard!” said every girl who loves autumn. And I get it. There’s just something about the shade of yellow that screams “Fall is here!” I last wore this blazer to my first FashionSpeak back in 2013 which I covered for Detroit Fashion News. Speaking of, FashionSpeak 2015 is coming this October 15!

Blazer and dress: thrifted • Earrings: Charming Charlie’s

That’s all for my first few days in Cali! Hope you guys enjoyed this kind of post and watch out for Wednesday’s new guest feature! Have a great day!
