Caution: Cheesy post ahead!
Today, my best friend of 23 years is getting married to her sweetheart of nearly a decade! Their story is like one of a Nicholas Sparks movie, just insert a wave of spiritual growth and passionate love for Christ into it. I’m ecstatic to see these two join hands and publicly declare and vow their love and lifetime commitment to each other as they step into life’s next chapter. Wow, cue the waterworks already!
I’m rusty on that dating life; my last relationship was more than three years ago. I don’t know much about marriage; insert obvious reasons here. But what I do know…what I’ve been taught… what I’ve seen…what I’ve discovered through pain…is that a relationship with Christ in the center is vital and worthwhile. Those who marry with the intention of serving God together and putting Him first in everything is a marvelous blessing. Truly.
To all my single ladies who doubt. Who have given up. Who have given in. Who are still stitching their heart back together. Who are trying to escape the past. Who fantasize about a love that we all so eagerly try to expedite. There is someone special in store for you. Someone who God has designed as a made-to-order. A man who will not be perfect, but a prime fit to your imperfectness. Don’t alter your destiny because of time and loneliness. For now, love, listen, and obey God with all that you’ve got. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Then, one day, you will experience this just as my friend will:

“Love as distinct from ‘being in love’ is not merely a feeling. It is a deep unity, maintained by the will and deliberately strengthened by habit; reinforced by the grace which both partners ask, and receive from God. They can have this love for each other even at those moments when they do not like each other; as you love yourself even when you do not like yourself.”
– C.S. Lewis
