Samurai: Beyond the Armor Fashion Show

Saturday, May 17- The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) recently collaborated with 10 of Michigan’s most talented fashion designers for the Samurai: Beyond the Armor runway show. One of the DIA’s current exhibitions, “Samurai: Beyond the Sword,” was the inspiration behind the designers’ garments. Within four weeks, each designer used their talent and interpretation of the Japanese military nobility. After each garment was completed, voters could vote online for their favorite piece and the winner was announced during Saturday’s production.

Runner- up: Loren D. Jordan

Winner: Janna Coumoundouros
