How excited do you get when one of your favorite artists comes out with new music and you can’t help but play it non-stop? Yeah, that’s me with Francesca Battistelli. I have been a Battistelli fan for a few years now and have found joy and comfort in songs like “Angel By Your Side,” “Constant,” “Forever Love,” “Beautiful, Beautiful,” and “You’re Here.” Now, her newest album “If We’re Honest” has just added more five star ratings to my iTunes. It’s so good that I decided to blog about it and share with you some of my favorite songs that obliterate my heart with Jesus’ goodness.
“He Knows My Name”
“I don’t need my name in lights
I’m famous in my Father’s eyes
Make no mistake
He knows my name
I’m not living for applause
I’m already so adored
It’s all His stage
He knows my name”
This song reminds me of Lecrae’s “Background” and TobyMac’s “Steal My Show” in the sense that God should be first and foremost because He deserves all fame and glory. I also reflect on “fashion meets God.” Being prayerful with this blog is incredibly important for me because never do I want it to be about gaining popularity or self-vanity but instead evidence of obedience that I am pursuing the purpose He has called for my life.
“He always is, He always will be
He always has been everything I need
How can this be catching me by surprise?
He’s ever strong, He’s ever faithful
His love is real, now nothing is impossible”
I’ve played this song every night this week by dwelling on each word and literally finding rest for my soul after a long day. Just as the chorus states it’s all about putting your hope in God. Hope for a joy-filled tomorrow. Hope for a light at the end of that dark tunnel in a situation. Hope for a job. Hope for His clear direction in your life. Hope for a true significant other. Hope for rekindled relationships. And in the midst of it all, find rest.
“Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord”
I’ve been studying on the Holy Spirit and have gained a much better understanding of who He, not it, is. Then after hearing this song He becomes SO much more powerful. Just close your eyes and listen to the chorus. It’s meditation on His great sovereignty at its finest.
“I know you’re thinking that you’ve finally gone too far
And you’re certain He’ll be closing the door
But you’ve gotta believe the things you’ve done aren’t beyond His love
He’s not keeping score”
“Keeping Score” is ridiculously relatable. I am far from perfect; I have a past that I still think about and fall back into. To be quite frank sometimes I think God is tallying all of my rights and wrongs and that with each wrong, I won’t receive a blessing which is totally wrong because He has shown me otherwise countless of times. God loves blessings us; He wants to. He understands us better than we understand ourselves because He created us! No matter what you’ve done, no matter who you’ve been, He will always accept you with open arms. “If His love is big enough to move any mountain His love is big enough for you, just accept it.”
“If We’re Honest”
“I’m a mess and so are you
We’ve built walls nobody can get through…
Bring your brokenness, and I’ll bring mine
‘Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy’s waiting on the other side
If we’re honest”
Not to be redundant, but I honestly love how honest Francesca is. As a Christian artist who has won a Dove award and is a Grammy nominee, you would think she has it together all the time. But just like us she can be a mess. She can have inner brokenness. But we rest in the fact that our Lord and Savior can heal anything and anyone. God wants us to be honest with Him.
Take a listen to her full album on Spotify and listen to her awesome commentary, too! I pray that God will speak and move in your heart just as He did to mine.
Love you guys and have a great weekend!
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” -Colossians 3:16
