Rewind eleven years and you have 11-year-old Jireh being in love with The Lord of the Rings trilogy. When The Two Towers came out, I used to watch it everyday for two weeks in the summer. I thought Legolas was the most amazing character ever with his swift and cunning skills. Like, let me just 360 onto a horse and surf on an elephant’s trunk. I had the blonde elf’s picture covering my bedroom door and it came to a point where I even dressed as an elf. I half-and-half-ed my hair with a single braid on each side equipped with my own bright, yellow “bow-and-arrow.” True story.
While watching The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, giddiness came over me when Legolas appeared (even with those blue contacts). He’s back!!! Not only did I relive my pre-teen years but the movie sparked inspiration for design. What would I wear if I lived in modern day Rivendell? I grabbed my sketchbook, pencil, and drew some croquis. Ohps, and please excuse the marker bleed 🙂
