Behind the Scenes: Calling all Models

Last Monday I was invited by Michigan F.A.S.H. Fest’s (MFF) CEO Leslie Ann Pilling to cover their model casting call for September’s “Runway Industry Showcase” and “Premiere Festival” at the Boll Famiy YMCA theater in Downtown Detroit. I saw my fellow Detroit blogger Liz of Illustrious Jewelry and met some of the Metro D’s top industry heads such as interior designer Corey Jenkins, hair stylist Sebastian Jackson, and StyleLine’s editor (among many other things) Karen Buscemi who all served as the judging panel. Side note: I experienced the most embarrassing self introduction in my life thus far with these guys! Let’s just say I verbally used the word “awkwardly” twice which in fact made the whole situation even more awkward. Hopefully I redeemed myself with professional (aftershock) handshakes and smile. It was great watching so many possible models for MFF’s big September weekend. Can’t wait to see the final outcome!

As I walked out after the casting call completed, I had to take a picture of this sign next to the YMCA because it presented so much truth. What people need to understand is that there ARE good things happening in Detroit and this casting call is example A. Fashion and the arts are a couple among other things that are making an awesome comeback!

Read more about the casting call and view further pictures on Detroit Fashion News and while you’re there, meet the featured designers who will showcase their collections in September!
