Favorites from Spring 2013 Couture

Couture. Just the word gives me chills. Maybe it’s because it highlights the epitome of a design house’s craftsmanship. Or that everything is just so darn beautiful! The fact that only about 17 couture houses are currently “certified” to be a part of couture week is intimidating from a student designer’s point of view yet awe-inspiring at the same time.

Here are my favorites from spring 2013 couture:

Alexis Mabille-2 Alexis Mabille-3

Alexis Mabille, couture’s newest member. A collection reminiscent of the ballet days. It encapsulates total femininity with some of my favorite things: tulle, lace, embroidery, pink.Saab-4 Saab-5

Elie Saab. Browsing through his collection gave me a whiff of Marchesa, which is probably why I love it so much. The use of embroidery and 3D lacework is astounding. The above lavender dress caught my eye because of its elegant simplicity. Vali-3

Giambattista Valli. I thought fashion would throw out the high-low skirts/dresses this upcoming spring season, but apparently Valli insists on its stay. That’s totally fine with me, I love high-low still!Gaultier Gaultier-2 Gaultier-4 Gaultier-3

Jean Paul Gaultier better WORK. I can’t. An Arabian night with a carnival-like twist. The use of details and whimsical features taps into my inner modern gypsy. That purple ensemble- Esmeralda much? Absolutely adore!
