First and foremost…HAPPY 2013!!!
How was your New Year’s? My days leading up to 2013 and a bit after consisted of the above images courtesy of Instagram. Opening gifts on Christmas Day, intense games of Dutch Blitz, my current reads, jam sessions with my brothers, and even this little cutie giving me a surprise smooch on NYE! Now it’s already three days into the new year. It took me a few days to think about what my first post for 2013 should be; I knew I didn’t want to go straight into fashion/look shots. Instead, I’ll write on something we all need at least every once in a while especially when we start a new year: encouragement.
Be positive, don’t just think positive. Be thankful. Be kinder. Help others. Smile more. Love more. Because you can’t live a positive life with a negative mind. I’m a huge believer that everything happens for a reason and there’s a lesson to be taken from any situation. It doesn’t necessarily even have to be a bad situation. Waking up with air in your lungs is something to be thankful enough for. And please, you don’t always have to resort to social media to post your complaints and miserableness. One bad day doesn’t mean you have a bad life.
Live it out. What motivates you? What’s the thing that drives you to keep pushing yourself? Music’s a big part of my life. Ergo, some of my favorite “you’ve got this” songs.
Keep track. 365 days is a pretty long time and we can tend to lose our perseverance throughout those days. Personally, physically writing down goals and encouragement for myself helps me to think positive. When I was in the Philippines I started a quote book where I wrote down anything that lifted my spirits just a bit more. It quickly became filled with Bible verses, quotes from books and the Internet, song lyrics, and words of wisdom from close friends and family. Whenever I feel down and discouraged I read each page carefully and meaningfully. How do you keep yourself on track?
Trust God. Yep, you knew it was coming! Accepting Christ into your heart is the best gift you could ever receive and living it out changes your entire life. Have faith! Block fear, worry, and anxiety. These keep you from living the life you were designed to live. Dive deep into His Word, His love letter to us that basically guides us through anything and everything. I realize life is far from perfect; it never will be, actually. But remember: God brought you into this life. He will get you through it.
I am no therapist, counselor, or the like but I pray that these words somehow help you achieve what you want to do and who you want to be in 2013. Be determined and stay focused. Be the type of person you want to meet. I for one am so excited to see what God has in store for me this year!
