Traveling to Delaware and North Carolina have made me more appreciative of traveling and getting to know the kinds of people that live down here. I love Michigan and my little town of Ortonville, but if you never travel out of it or out of Michigan itself, you’re missing out on a lot of what life has to offer.
Delaware was really nice even though we stayed there for less than three days. But everyone is so nice. I was sitting on a bench for 15 minutes and every single person that walked by said “hi” with a smile. I feel like you don’t get that in many places. Or is that just me?
I sum up North Carolina in this: It’s where the Tommy Bahama, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, J. Crew, and Sperry’s come out and they’re actually appropriate. It’s where people appreciate and live to love the clacking of sails, the salty air and constant wind, the sound and sight of crashing waves against building stilts, and the sound of creaky footsteps on wooden piers. Nights in Rodanthe and Charlie St. Cloud come into mind immediately. Oh…and the song “Raise Up” by Petey Pablo.
This one’s for North Carolina! C’mon and raise up
Take your shirt off, twist it ‘round yo head
Spin it like a helicopter
North Carolina! C’mon and raise up
This one’s for you, uh-huh, this one’s for who?
Us, us, us; yes sir!
