Here is the start to my adventure…
I had student orientation today! So my aunt and I had to practice getting there with public transportation since that is how I will be getting to school most days. The family driver took us to the jeepney station then we got on a jeepney to Cubao. I learned “bayad ho” (here’s my fee) and “para mama” (stop mister). While we were in the jeep, Auntie Deanna taught me the safety smarts while traveling. Needless to say, it got me a little more nervous to take public transportation but I just have to grin and bear it. We got off and walked to Gateway (a mall that leads to the MRT train station), went through an escalator, walked through Farmer’s Market, then went on the “To Pasig” MRT line. So this is the first time I’ve ever been on a train. And it was so much fun. I’m the kind of person that likes to people watch so watching people on the train and out the window overlooking Metro Manila is such a fun experience. One day I will break out in dance like in Step Up 2. After a few stops, we got off at Buendia Avenue. We took the longest walk ever just to get to Paseo de Roxas and then we finally got to SoFA. I survived. But I’m really starting to like the city. It makes me want to move to NY. Even though it takes me an hour and a half just to get to school. Hrm.
Student orientation- great. I’m so excited for school. And the students there seem so fun! I’m the only foreigner from the States and there’s this one Filipino from Germany.
I start class tomorrow!
I wish I could speak fluent Tagalog!
